“Meet Celaena Sardothien. Beautiful. Deadly. Destined for greatness.
In the dark, filthy salt mines of Endovier, an eighteen-year-old girl is serving a life sentence. She is a trained assassin, the best of her kind, but she made a fatal mistake: she got caught.
Young Captain Westfall offers her a deal: her freedom in return for one huge sacrifice. Celaena must represent the prince in a to-the-death tournament—fighting the most gifted thieves and assassins in the land. Live or die, Celaena will be free. Win or lose, she is about to discover her true destiny. But will her assassin’s heart be melted?”
The characters in this book are fantastic. Celaena is just so kick-ass, she has to be one of my all time favourite heroine’s. She’s smart, cunning and beautiful; a perfect cocktail for an assassin. Dorian was so sweet and he created the humour and lightness in this book as he brought the best out in everyone. And Chaol also brought out another side to Celaena. He is more serious than Dorian, but I think in the books to come we will see that something has made him that way and we’ll find out what and why. Hopefully, we’ll find out more about all the character’s pasts, especially what happened to Celaena’s parents. As I think this was a pivotal event in not just her life but will be essential in the story.
This book is written in third person from multiple POV. But don’t worry, it is all clear and I had no problem figuring out whose point of view it was. The description was great in this book and I had no problem in it. However the only thing I had a problem with was I didn’t feel like there was loads of world building, but this is mainly because the duration of this book was spent within the castle grounds. So fingers crossed there is more exploration of this setting during the next books in this series. Series I am so happy this is a series, three books would definitely not have been enough!
